Login Convergence
Xerox systems have the potential to require several different bits of information to use some of their systems, related to various forms of authentication, access or accounting. Although some customers wanted to utilize more than one method, the volume of user input required made this unusable.
I proposed a design that unified all methods allowing a logical approach to machine access and accounting that is highly coherent and simple to use. By associating authentication names with accounts, and remembering static information, the number of screens and the workflow was significantly improved.
Logical Diagram
Authentication may be required for access to services, tools or both. (Card reader, user input, or other)
Accounting may be required on a per job basis. The user will be prompted at some time before the job is submitted.

Benefits
Multiple datasets (limits, access, preferences, personalization, metadata, etc.) can be associated with a single login account.
Copy limits may be personalized based on user login.
User-specific "personal" address books, etc. may be linked to each user.
Metadata may be required but now may include user-specific data pre-filled.
